Remembering 9/11
Terrorism sadly affects too much of the world, and many innocent people have suffered for it, just as they have throughout the history of human conflict. We were last in Paris the day that Charlie Hebdo was attacked just a few short blocks from where we were at the time. Today, in the United States, we remember 9/11 for many reasons. One reason we remember it is for the tragic loss of innocent life. For the children, family, and friends who never had the chance to say goodbye. Another reason we remember it is for the extraordinary heroism of that time. And another reason we remember, the best reason to remember, why we remember Charlie Hebdo and all the others from Bali to London, is for the refusal of civilized humans to give in to the brutality, for decency to remain defiant and prevalent against terror, for the human spirit to recover and soar again.
