Light in the Shadows

I‘Ve been focusing more on monochromatic architectural photography lately. I love photographing structures, and especially bridges, in black & white. Architecture speaks to me about humanity’s ambition in the face of a challenging universe. Many animals build things; in that we are not unique. But as far as I know, we are the only ones that build structures that are greater than we require, and in which we attempt to imbue beauty for its own sake. I think that makes us different. Architecture is humanity’s ambition realized. I try to express that in images that encapsulate expanses of time and light that was but a shadow of itself.

The image above is of the Drawbridge in Rio Vista, California. Like all bridges, it connects, transforms, and aspires.
